To him who in the love of Nature holds
Communion with her visible forms, she speaks
A various language; for his gayer hours
She has a voice of gladness, and a smile
And eloquence of beauty, and she glides
Into his darker musings, with a mild
And healing sympathy, that steals away
Their sharpness, ere he is aware.
WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT: _Thanatopsis._

Psilocybe coprophilia

These tiny fungi were found during bitterly cold weather (the temperature never got above four degrees celcius) in the middle of winter at Wee Jasper near Yass, in South Central NSW. Like Poronia erici, they were growing on wombat dung. The dung cap psilocybe, Psilocybe coprophilia, has beautiful chestnut brown glossy caps, and purply black gills, with a fairly stout stem.
