Microglossum viride
Microglossum viride, green earth tongues, were seen in profusion along the Williams River walk at the Barrington Tops National Park, NSW Australia, only the once: we havent' seen them before or after the one event.
Microglossum viride belong to the Earth tongues group which are generally small black poker shaped fungi with a swollen head up to 50 mm high and some time found covered with white spore deposit. They normally are found living saprobically on the soil among the forest floor ground litter.
The spores which are formed on the fetile surface in the groove, are brown.
