Coprinus
Coprinus fungi include the ink cap family - fungi that literally autodigest at maturity to form a blacky inky mass. They grow on wood, in soil, in grass, and seem to favour disturbed or gardened places. The shaggy ink cap (Coprinus comatus) is good eating when very young, but the rest have been described as poisonous.
