Chlorociboria aeruginascens - the wood staining fungi

Often on the rainforest floor you can find pieces of wood that have been stained a blue green. Sometimes you even see the culprit, the minute disc shaped Chlorociboria aeruginascens.

Chlorociboria aeruginascens gets its name from Aerug- meaning "blue-green, green" and
ascens means "becoming" so that aeruginascens means
"becoming green."

This fungus belongs to the phylum Ascomycota, order Helotiales and family Helotiaceae. The disks are stalked.
Another species is mentioned on the internet, Chlorociboria aeruginosa, which forms nearly identical fruit bodies,
does not stain the wood green, and has larger ascospores.
