Zelleromyces sp

Zelleromyces sp (Fuhrer p240). This truffle like fungus was found in soft soil on the forest floor, Carey's Peak Walk, Barrington National Park, April, 2010. There was some hyphae attached. The oustide layer was almost as convoluted as the inside, which comprised of purplish chambers and a central hollow. Fuhrer describes Zellomyces as also extruding a latex, which this one did, Picture ref: 1592 Gallery ref: 23
