Strobilomyces sp

Strobilomyces sp, a bolete, Blue Gum Loop walk, Williams River, Barrington Tops National Park, New South Wales, Australia, April 2007, solitary in soil, in deep hollow of burnt eucalypt, cap moist tormentose, glistening with dew drops, deep mauve gray mid tone. Stipe rather slender than stout reticulated, darker gray on lighter. Tubules 1-2mm, tube surface same grey as stem. Cap inrolled, 90mm; stipe 90mm faded from pruplish olive colour. Pores dark brown on cutting. Flesh pale, but stains pinkish red on cutting. Stain does not fade but eventually (after some hours) goes very dark brown. Stipe tough and fibrous. Other descriptions have pores white, darkening with age. See photograph
